How often should CFOs speak with the board?

Planful CEO Grant Halloran recommends CFOs update their company's board several times a week as financial planning becomes all the more fraught.

All right. So for today’s agenda, I’ll give you a little bit of background about myself, and then I want to camp on vision for a little bit in regards to Continuous Planning. So when we think about vision, it’s really about the where. It’s about where we’re going. Where do we want to go? It’s not about ignoring the past, but it’s about putting it aside for a little bit so you can focus on the future that’s different and think big, think outside the box. And then it’s really about what’s the next in terms of your Continuous Planning journey and the Planful platform. And then lastly, I want to go through some of those next best steps that we’ve taken as part of our own journey in trying to achieve that vision that we’ve set out for ourselves.

Luis Martinez Luna (01:20):

So a little bit about myself. I won’t get into everything that’s there on the slide, just a couple of highlights. I’m a senior FP&A analyst here at Bose. I’ve been on the team now for about two years. Prior to that, I was an MGC, which is manufacturing global supply chain financier Bose. I led some initiatives there in technology as well, doing a couple of ERP implementations as well as transitioning our business intelligence to Power BI from Microsoft. I’m very passionate about technology, using data and analytics to drive the business forward. And so it was a very natural fit for me to take the lead when I moved to FP&A on being the main administrator on the Planful platform.

Bringing in operational metrics enables us to spot things we couldn’t have seen before so that the financials make a lot more sense for our operational managers.

I’m actually completing my masters in business analytics right now. I just wrapped up the spring semester. Fortunately, that has an online program, so I wasn’t negatively impacted by the COVID situation going on right now. It’s been business as usual in that dimension. I’ve been married now for three years. My wife and I had what I’m going to call our first pandemic anniversary at the end of April. We’ve got a two year-old boy who’s actually sleeping in the room behind me. It’s got some white noise, so he won’t be disturbed with any of the sound. It’s been an interesting opportunity being home, having extra time with my family. I’m definitely enjoying consistency in having breakfast and dinner with them. I hope you guys are able to take advantage of some of the positives and some of the flexibility that some of us have as a result of what’s going on.

Luis Martinez Luna (02:53): All right. So now, onto our vision here at Bose. Oh, it looks like this froze. There we go. All right. So a little bit about vision at a glance. I won’t get too deep into all the details, but I do want to focus on just the importance of vision for a little

I won’t get too deep into all the details, but I do want to focus on just the importance of vision for a little bit here. So without a clear vision, you’re going to end up going in circles. You don’t know where you’re going, you don’t have a destination if you don’t have a clear vision. Now, that doesn’t mean you’re going to have a very clear picture right from the beginning as you take steps towards Continuous Planning.
